ACQUISITION OF WABCO BY ZF

WABCO BECOMING A PART OF ZF:

WABCO (Westinghouse Air Brake Company) becoming part of ZF Friedrichshafen AG signifies a significant acquisition and strategic move in the automotive industry. ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a global technology company known for its advanced driveline and chassis technologies, acquired WABCO Holdings Inc., a leading provider of commercial vehicle control systems.

 

BACKGROUND:

WABCO Holdings Inc. has a long-standing history and reputation as a pioneer in the development of innovative braking, stability control, and other safety systems for commercial vehicles. With a strong focus on improving efficiency and safety in the transportation sector, WABCO has been a key player in enhancing the performance of trucks, buses, trailers, and other heavy-duty vehicles.

Here are some of WABCO's most notable products:

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

Electronic stability control (ESC)

Traction control system (TCS)

Adaptive cruise control (ACC)

Lane departure warning system (LDWS)

 

THE ACQUISITION:

WABCO became a part of ZF in 2020, when ZF acquired the company for $7 Billion. The acquisition was part of ZF's strategy to expand its presence in the commercial vehicle market The acquisition was approved by all regulatory authorities in May 2020. Following the approval, ZF commenced the integration of WABCO into its Commercial Vehicle Control Systems Division. By the acquisition ZF gained access to WABCO's extensive product portfolio, which includes ABS, ESC, TCS, ACC, and LDWS systems. ZF gained access to WABCO's global customer base and gained access to WABCO's expertise in safety, efficiency, and connectivity.
